STARTLING BURGLARY
DYNAMITE USED: TELEPHONE OUT OFF. '(Pen Press Association.) , Obristohnrob, last night. The Amberloy railway station, 34 miles north of Ohristohureh, was brokon into on Saturday night. Two safes wore dynamited and £9O in gold, notes and silver, and £9O worth of postal notes wore stolen. The telephone transmitters wore also taken. Tho wires wore out a short distance south of Amberloy,but wore repaired by tho lineman on duty on Sunday morn- i ing. Spare transmitters wore attached and information telegraphed to Christoburoh A full staff of detectives left for I Amberloy by special train at noon. I ..The burglary appears to bo tho work of [ a dangerous gang, for the Hornby station I was similarly broken into last Saturday I night. I It is surmised that the Auckland gang I has started work in and around Christ- I ohurch. - |
