T he Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, APRIL 8, 1905. BRITISH POLITICS.
'Quite (v new: interest is being iiifuseii into politics in Hnglaittd, as is evidenced by the coipicus reports being cabled of speeches and opinions. Those who study politics are aware that the speeches and, comments are really electioneering appeals, with the usual amount of high coloring to each, ounce of solid fact. The Brighton election provided a sensation, we are told, although it probably proves not more than that the result of elections cannot be regarded as foregone conclusions and superior organisation always has a marked advantage. But the deductions made arc all based on the political beliefs of the speaker on writer offering an opinion. Probably, the Times picks out the weak point when it ascribes the defeat largely to" the lukewarmness of the Unionists. The conduct of the ’ Government is certainly most objectionable to anyone imbued cither by party feeling on with independent thought. Instead of being prepared to meet all attacks, the Government has let its opponents hammer away while it liasi gone yawning in a tired way. Elections are not likely to be won ITT that fashion, and the fate of the Ministry, is sealed Unless more vigor is shown.-
