Ex-Constable Osborne, who reserved his defence, was committed for trial on two charges, the/ question of bail standing over. . A third!,, charge is proceeding. • J ' Dunedin, last night. The Police Court was engaged all dayin hearing charges of breaking and enter--ing and stealing against the constables. Alfred Henry Osborne was committed for trial on three charges of stealingarticles, including silk handkerchiefs, envelopes and paper, and soap,'tobacco, pipes, etc., fropthree, different premises. Bail was allowe. accused in £4OO and two sureties of £2f oaoh.
• The charge against Edward Quill stealing a rag, pieces of tweed, etc., w .partly heard, and adjourned till Month- £, The goods are supposed to belong to U,ae' D.I.C. and Ahlfeld Bros.
In the cases against Osborne, he ex* plained when arrested how he came by some of the goods. Some articles hat said he bought, others wore givon him by Constable Moses, tobacco was given by Quill and a man named Beddingtoa, who had found a tobacconist’s shop open. , ..
