; Auckland, last night. King Goorge of Tonga was a passenger I by the Hauroto, in company with Mr I Cotter, solicitor, who is advising him in I connection with the recent Tonga trouble. King George, interviewed, said he had written to the Secretary of State and King ! Edward, pretesting against the High Commissioner’s action, and asking if ho and his Council are not froe from such inter* I ference and subject only to- the laws of Tonga. Ho submits that he is free to appoint and remove his .Ministers without consulting Britain or her representatives. He asks if in the event of the exorcise of I these powers Britain will annex the island, and draws attention to the treaties of 1879 1 and 1900 and the amendment of 1901. j
