POLICE SCANDAL.

ANOTHER ARREST, h (Per Press Association.) • : ' Dunedin yesterday. Edward Quill, another police constable, was arrested this morning on a charge of stealing d quantity of goods valued at £lO, the property of some person unknown. The caeos against ex-Constable Mo3es and McDonald, of stealing goods valued at £4O from the D.X.C., aro being heard in the Police Court. . The Crown Solicitor is prosecuting, and Mr Hanlon defending.

COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.

.(Per Press 'Association.) Dunedin, last night, At the Police Court to-day Constables James McDonald and Thomas Moses were charged with; about the Gfhinst., breaking and entering the warehouse of tho D.I.C. Company, and stealing therefrom two hair brushes, one clothes brush, one silver match bos, two soap boxes, one'pair of gold sleeve links, one manicure set, one purse, three fur necklets, four umbrellas, five wool mots, two wool rugs, two Axminster rugs, H Cbenille curtains, and one rug, the property of the same company, and of the total value of £4O.

MrJ. F. M. Fraser appeared to prosecute, and Mr A. C. Hanlon to defend. Evidence was giyen by the emplovees of the D.1.C., identifying the goods, and by Robert McQuillan, grocer, who lived next door to Moses. On the morning of the arrest ho saw Moses packing up things. He brought a case to witness, and said he had 1 received twelve days’ holiday and asked to leave tho,things, which were marriage presents, in charge of witness, as ho did not thifik they would be safe in his cottage. Witness informed Detective Herbert next morning. Detective Herbert described the circumstances of the arrest of accused and the finding of the articles in their bous9s. I " Accused reserved their defence, and were committed for trial. , Bail was fixed at £4O each, and two sureties for each in £2OO oach.
