CHAMBERLAIN AND SALISBURY

Sir Michael Hicks-Beach. in a letter to the Timos, says that while the late Lord Salisbury was doubtless awars of Mr OhamberJoin’s views on colonial preference, yet he (Sir Miohael Hicks-Bsach) was confident that neither Lord Salisbury nor the Cabinet had even authorised Mr Chamberlain to propose or aocept at a colonial conference thß principle of preference, especially in foodstuffs. * The Times says. that Lord Salisbury’s objections to Mr Chamberlain’s proposals wore mostly founded on tactical considerations ruther than tho question of principles.
