I late in the. evening. Quite a number of ladies and gentlemen visited the steamer, and wore courteously shown over the vessel by the officers. They were all agreeably impressed wi th' tho mew Coastal steamer, as she is very comfortably iitte.d ,np. and should certainly find favour with the' travelling public.

TOKOMARU BAY,
I '(From o ; ur Own Correspondent.) March 27. Mr Hill, Inspector of schools, examined tho district school on Tuesday last. Ho advanced all the pupils ready, and spoke well of tho progress made einco his last visit. The roll now numbors twenty-five, and the teacher has great difficulty in seating this number in the very limited room at our disposal, and we hope shortly to have an addition to the school room.
Tho Haupiri reached hero on Saturday last, and landed 20 tons of cargo and some timber, bosides sheep on her way up from last week! The last ot this season’s wool (about 20 bales) was shipped.
TOKOMARU RACES.
(Special to .Times)'; Tokomaru, Monday.
The aunual race meeting was held on the advertised date. With the exception of a slight drizzling rain occasionally the day was fine. The crowd was somewhat larger than usual, and host Jameison had a busy time attending to tho wants of his customers.
Mr Thornton, deputy secretary, and Mr Fairlie, starter, had qoite a busy time, and succeeded in giving every satisfaction. All the meets wero won easily, a different horse winning each race. • Owing to the tide the races were started shortly after 9 o’clock, and wero finished about 3.30 p.m. The following wore tho results : Maiden Scurry. MARRIAGE AT GISBORNE. At Holy TriDity Church yesterday morning Mr George Henry Williams, I son of Mr H. Williams, Tolago Bay, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to I Miss Violet Rose Edith Dennett, youngest daughter of Mr W. Y. Dennett, of Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, Tho ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dawson Thomas. I There was a large number of relatives and I friends present, including Mrs A. L. D. j Fraser, of Hastings, sister of bride. The ] bridesmaids were Miss Nellio Williams, I sister of the bridegroom, Miss Queenio I Parker, and two little girls—Miri Fraser and Ivy Parker. Miss E. M. Parker, aunt of the bride, gave her away. The groom was attended by Messrs C. Parker and E L. Maudo. The bride looked charming in a tasteful costume of white silk, with chif.fon and Maltese lace. Miss Queenie Parker, wore green silk, with hat and gloves to match ; Miss Williams, an electric blue silk costume ; and tho two litt.B maids were attired in Tussore silk dresses. Mrs Fraser wore pink silk, and Mrs Parker black silk. After the ceremony the wedding party drove to Mrs Parker’s residence, Childers road, where a light collation was served and the health of the happy couple proposed by Mr Maude, and suitably toasted. The wedding breakfast was partelcen of at Mr J. Stewart’s, Haiti. Mr and Mrs Williams received a number of congratulatory wires from friends on tho Coast and in Hawke’s Bay. They left in afternoon for Hauiti, where their home will be, and carry with them the best wishes of a wide circle of friends for their future happiness and prosperity.
SHEEP DOG TRIALS. [{Special to Gisborne Times.),— Tokomaru Bay, last night. The annual trials in connection with the Waiapu Sheep Dog Trial Club commenced to-day. Splendid weathor prevailed, and there was a good attendance. Owing to the large number of entries for the different events an early start wes the day’a proceedings wore not concluded till a late hour. The judging of Mr G. W. Davis, os on previous occasions, gave general satisfaction. In the event decided to-day, the Long Head, splendid work was done by McKinnon’s Wag add Stewart’s Jade, the former being placed in the premier position by the narrow margin of half a point. WAIAPU RAGES to Gisborne Times.) Tup'iroa, Tuesday. There was beautiful weather for the Wainpu Racing Club's annual moeting, held on the Mungahonoa racecourse, and a rooord attendance. The racing was good throughout, ttioro boing only ono. protest during the day, in tho District Welter, which was dismissed, and tho owner having lodged a notice of appeal against tho deoision of tho stewards, the stakes were impounded.
