(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Court of Appeal heard argument to day in the case of tho King v. Laurence, a Christchurch case, the question being wbetber a certain telegram sent by a prisoner named Laurence bad been properly received id evidence at the trial when he was convicted of unlawfully using an instrument on a woman. The telegram was, 11 Answer no questions ; on my way to you.” The prisoner was not represented. For the Crown it was contended that the Electric Lines Ao't, 1884, made the original telegram which was handed in at Wellington conclusive evidence that it was sent by the prisoner. The Court reserved judgment. Tho fo)losviog <, sentences were passed in the Supreme Court to-day:—Joseph Pattison, criminal assault on a young girl at Stratford, five years ; Frank Bolton and Edward Black, five charges of breaking and entering at New Plymouth and Hawora, Black throe years, Bolton two years ; Gordon Lennon, false pretences at Pahiatua, two charges, 12 months.
