BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council wa3 hold lest night. Present: The Mayor (Mr ToWniey) and Crs Hepburn, Whinray, Lysnar, Morrison, SomerYell, Harding, Johnston, and Kennedy. ' An application was made on behalf of twenty groeors, claiming to bs a majority, for a certificate of exemption from the early closing regulations. The petition was referred to the Town Clerk fur veriScation as to names. Mr Heron asked far permission to have a coffee stall in town.—Agreed to at tho usual fee, 5s per month. The Bank of Now Zealand wrote stating that the charge on overdraft was tho same as charged to other local bodies. Twenty ratepayers on Kaiti asked that tho.road3. through the property sold by Captain Tuckqr deformed and metalled in accordance with the. written promise whioh they understood had been given to the Couooil by Captain Tucker. . Cr Wliinr.-iy moved that the Council sympathise with the applicants, and that they bo informed tho Council can do nothin" until the terms of the Act are complied with ; the petition to be forwarded to Captain Tucker.—Agreed to. ' Tho officers’ reports were read.
Discussion took place on the subject of tho road to tho abattoirs. • Cr Lysnar moved, and Cr Harding •ennded, that a loan be raised, and steps *o have.tho road put in order. Whinray considered a loan for that road alone wonld bo defeated and affeot any greater scheme. Tho Mayor said the road would cost a largo sum. Ho thought repairs would suit .- for tho timo being. - , . - Crs-Harding and Lysnar voted for a loan, and-the works, committee recommendation to repair was adopted.
