It .was stated that the Premier: had been served with a subpoena, but Mr Seddon having arranged to proceed South', informant agreed not to call him.

Mr Richardson', in opening his case against the Mayor, said that tho assault was unprovoked. The Mayor’s conduct Jed to the commencement of the riot, some of the public putting him (Richardson) on the pi aliform from which he had been ejected, while others prevented him from returning. He submitted that he was following the usual custom at public meetings when attempting to move an amendment.

Later.—ln a charge of assault agains the Mayor (Hon. E. Mitchelson), arising out of a scene at the Premier’s meeting, defendant pleaded justification, and said that bo had used no more force than was necessary to proserve order. The oase was adjourned.
