Moeraki broke the record from Lyttelton this morning, steaming the distance in 10 hojursl 17! minutes, 13 minutes quicker than the Wimmera’s recent record. In reference to a paragraph recently published that the Sierra had on board 1200 bags of mails, the Secretary to the .Post Office .is advised from Honolulu that the New, Zealand mail, is about the normal number of hags, but the Australian mail is very heaivy. This is probably on account of the hitch in connection with the despatch of the Australian mail from London, by the Orionit line.

She was launched in October, 1004, by Osborne, Graham ■and Co., Sunderland. ® A fire in the packing roam situated at the rear of Bu,ttcrworth aud Sona’ .warehouse, High street, early, this morning wholly, destroyed a valuable stock of tweeds and other articles. ‘The loss is estimated at £2OOO. The building was insured in the London and Lancashire for £SOO and the stock in the Sun for £2OOO. The fire was apparently started by a' tramp sleoßing among the packing cases.

Hotel last night, and nearly caused a serious confiagration. The sitting-room took fire, and. the interijor was destroyed before the fire was put out. The loss is small, and is covered by, insurance.
