Tho Hon, Mr Carrol), Native Minister, left Opotiki on Tuesday for Maraenui, a Maori settlement, where ho unveiled .a memorial Btone erected to the memory of 15 children, who, together with two adults, of the Whaoau Apanui tribe, lost their lives crossing the Motu river in a oanoe. Tho memorial stone, which cost -2140, consists of a handsome pedestal of white Italian marble, 16ft in height, mounted on three large blocks of dressod granite, standing on a concrete base, surrounded with an iron railing. The pedestal is beautifully carved. On its sides are the names of the victims, and an inscription in Maori,
