LONDON MARKET. W. and R; Fletcher, Limited, throngb Mr S. H. Graves, representative, Christ church, report from London, under date February 3rd There is no’improvement in the demand for cattle arid sheep, and with very few exceptions the general tone of the principal markets is one of weakness and depression. A slight recovery was reported last week on good sheep, but it was not maintained. The exceptions referred to aro one or two Scotch markets whera the stock was pro-' bably rather above' the average in quality. At the" foreign cattle depots business has been very slow,' and all salos moire'or ~ less forced, with. consignments only partially cleared. The current quotations for the week are : Best' United States cattle 4s, secondary 3s lOd, Canadians 3s 6d to 3s 9d, rabchers 3s to.3s 4d. A few sheep and lambs, States and Canadian, are ooming to hand ; they are not much in request, but are selling at 3s lOd to 4s 2d, and lambs to 5s per stone. Frozen Mutton. —New Zealand ; Be, duccd quotations bavin? failed to stimulate the demand (which, if anything, has been lees active than tl e preceding fortnight), values have still further declined. The position also has not been improved by the offering of numerous parcels of stale, long stored sheep, the holders of which have evidently given up all hopes now of obtaining the high prices that at one time seemed probable. Australian: Sales havo been difficult to effect owing to the unselling character of a largo proportion of tho stock available. At current rates, viz., to 3d per lb for carcases weighing 551bs and upwards and about d per lb more for lighter weights, the demand is very weak. River Plate : Demand haß ruled far from satisfactory, and this, combined with tho heavy consignments due to arrive this month, also the low rates ruling for Australian sheep, has resulted in quotations being still further reduced.

Frozen Lamb.: —New Zealand : Recent arrivals of new season's are now being offered in small . quantities. Sales are, however, so limited as to render quotations quite nominal. . Noith Island descriptions realise 6d to 6Jd. per lb, and. Canterburys 6Jd to 6}d per lb. Australian : Cold frosty weather last tvpek checked cjctuarici to some extont, and the market being oversupplied, woakuesi in prices necessarily followed. More favorable conditions this week have enabled sans to bo effected with greater freedom, current rates being very firm. River Plate : There has been but very little enquiry for this description. The-few offering at the provincial centres are of very irregular quality, and /realise to 5d per lb. Frozen Beef.—New Zealand : Although the supply is so very moderate, it has been more - than adequate for the trade during the past fortnight. In sympathy with the fall in values of other descriptions, lower rates have bpon accepted for the Bmall quantity sold. Australian: There hnvo been no fresh wrrivula, and the small quantity marketed has met a slow sale, hind and forequarters realising about Jd to per lb loss than last recorded. River Plate : A disappointing trade every day during the past fortnight is responsible for the steady decline in values. Hindquarters, however, have been most difficult to sell, and foroquarters have only been in moderate demand.
