TEMPERANCE UNION.
(Per Press 'Association.) Wanganui,'last night. At thß W.C.T.U., after luncheon recess, greetings were read from Dunedin Masterton and Wiitowby Unions. Reports of the late organizers were then given. Miss Powell reported that during nine months sde had travelled 2704 miles, paid 758 visits in tho interests of the cause, given 91 addresses, secured 224 new subscribers to the White Ribbon papers, raised £27 10s 2d, and collected for the New Zealand fund £43 2s 3d.
Miss Hnghes reported that during seven months of her work 22 Unions and eight districts not haying Unions had been visited. Seventeen geueral entertainments were successfully arranged, andl7 services and other meetings, conducted, making a total of 147 meatings. £BS 6s had been raieed. The organisation dwelt specially upon tbe great need of work, indeed recorded their conviotionthat a number of branohes in tbe country districts must collapse unless assisted in this way. A motion of condolence was tendered to the Women’s National Council for the loss sustained through the doath of Mrs Sievwright. of Gisborne.
