AUSTBALIA v. NEW ZEALAND,
t, sPet Press Association.) .. Christohurch, last night.,r Ideal weather favored the continuance of the match between Australia and New Zealand.
i The Australians continued their first Winnings, which closed for £33, a score Sfrbich was materially helped on both days by the shocking fielding of the New Zea landers. Gregory took his score to 61 before being well caught by Mason in the long field,- but his iDniog3 was always flokey.- Armstrong carried his bat throngh f/Qt 126, the featuro of his innings being his fino driving ; but ho was missed several times before making his century. The wicket was apparently playing a good deal faster than on the first day, and thTe bowling was very much better than the score indicates.
When the Now Zealanders went to the wiokots they made an excellent start, Graham and Olliver playing Cotter and Noble with every confidence, and scoring faster than the Australians did at the beginning of their innings. They knocked both bowlers off, but Graham then threw his wicket away by slogging wildly at and disaster followed. Olliver Was smartly caught at mid-on, and Sims was l.b.w. to. his third ball. Mason was bowled by Cotter, and with the last ball of the day Armstrong found im way into JBlacklook’s wicket, five wickets beiDg thus 4 down for 102.
Cotter was five times no-balled by Bannerman, but on changing over managed to escape the other .umpire, though the option expressed unanimously in the stand was that he bowled at least tfcitee successive no-balls, with one of which he got Mason’s wicket.
