SUGGESTED POSTPONEMENT OP OPENING CEREMONY.
Last evening Mr W. Gaudin received received the following telegram from his Excolloncy the Governor in regard' to the opening ceremony of the Gisborne-Te Karaka line “ Your letter of the 3rd instant received, I have been making every effort to fit in the opening ceremony of the Gisborne-Te Karaka railway with my engagements, but regret extremely to find this impossible. I J sincerely hope that the now line may bring, prosperity to your district, which I much look forward to visiting in the near I future.—Pmjnkbt, Governor.” I Mr Carroll also telegraphed last even- I , h>g v I “ Re Karaka railway opening, Sir Joseph I Ward intimated he would be present, and I Hall-Jones is also likely to be there, but I the 31st March is an awkward day, being I the end of the financial year. | The following letter has also been I received by. Mr Gaudin from the Hon. W. I Hall-Jones : I . “Roar sir,—l have to thank you for the I kind invitation of the East Coast Railway I League to he present at the opening ceremony of the Giaborne-Karaka railway, to be held at the end of March. In reply thereto, I regrofc .to have .to inform you that, as I have engagements in the South j up to near that date, I shall be unable to reach Gisborne, in time for the opening. I I trust, however, chat you will have a I thoroughly successful function.—Yours I truly, War. Halu- Jones.” [
