(Per Press Association.) ' HAWERA, last night. The Hon. C. H-. Mills and party returned to H'awera last night after, doing Mount Egmont. They had glorious weather 1 , and a splendid view, all the members of the party, getting to the top of Panth-amus. Veal:. Mr Mills left for Stratfo-rd this morning.
HOKITIKA, last night. In the Supreme Court the jury failed to agree in the case of 'John N. Pas-coe,, Grey Valley,. charged with procuring abortion. A fresh trial was ordered for Monday next, accused being admitted to bail of £SOO. Archibald McAllister, ohaxged with arson at Granity, Westport district, was found not guilty at the Supreme Court. The evidence proved that his house was in his wife’s name, and practically the property of accused. -The case against Murphy, and Bryan, two young men, charged with assault with intent to commit robbery at Cobden, Greymout-h district, is slow proceeding. DUNEDIN, last night. The visiting athletes, Shrub-b and Dhiffey, were formally welcomed by the Mayor and Mr ' Grierson, president. of the Athletic Association-
