Too many of our leading citizens already hold aloof from public life because of fcha mud-throwing to which they are exposed ; but if it became the usual thing to subject a man's family to similar treatment, every reputable person would hesitate before offering to serve the people in any capacity whatever. The good sense of-the community will, we feel sure, frown down any such undesirable innovation in the public life of the colony.—Wellington Times,
