LONDON WOOL SALES,

Leading wool firms submitted 11,958 bales of a fairly representative solootion. There w aß a full attendance from all quarters, tho sales arousing groat interest. Competition was' irregular. Compared with January olosiDg sales, merinos were praotically unchanged, feultios occasionally 5 per oent lower, lino orossbreds about id cheaper, medium 5 per oAut and coarse 5 to 7i per cent cheaper. Wellington, last night. The Commerce Depg£jinent has received a cablegram from the Agent-General at London, dated tho Bth 1- —“ There is a fair competition at the wool sales, there being plenty of Home and foreign buyers present, Compared with tho closing rates of last sales, superior meriuo is unchanged, whilst medium and inferior merino and fine orossbreds show a fall of id per lb. Medians and coarse crossbreds fell Id. There are 75,000 bales of New Zealand wool j available for the present salas.”
Napier, last night. The Colonial Consignment and Distri- ; buting Company have received the following cable from their London office :—“ A fall of Jd in the value of second quality lamb and hindquarters of beef. To-day’s quotations are : Canterbury mutton 44d, Napier, Wellington, and North Island BJd ; lamb, first quality 6d, seooDd sgd ; beef, hinds Sid, fores 2gd.”
MATAWHERO SALES. Tho Matawhero stook sales were held yesterday, when there was a record yarding of sheep. The weather was perfect, and there was a very large attendance of buyers.
Messrs Dalgety and Co. and Common, I Shelton and Co.’s joint yarding totalled 8500 sheep and 150 head of cattle. The sale opened very slack, buyers evidently heDging back on aoeount of the heavy yarding, anticipating that pricas would fall. JDalgcty and Company’s yardiog consisted mainly of old ewes, and prices were about a shilling easier than at last sales. - ' 1 '. ~: . -

Messrs Williams and Kettle held their fortnightly stock sale at Matawharo yards yesterday, when there was a good yarding of stock. There was a decline of from Is to Is 6d in the .price of old ewes, but on improvement in lambs.
