Attention is drawn by the postal department to the large number of imperfectly addressed letters, etc, which the poet office is called upon to deal with, and to the consequent delay which ordinarily occurs in delivering such correspondence, .Letters addressed simply to the name of a town, and in cases where the addressee is not a well-known resident, to a street without a house-number, frequently cause special inquiry and search and are thus necessarily delayed. It is therefore requested that in all cases the fullest address obtainable be placed on letters,; including the name of and number in the street, name of city, town, or suburb, and name of the district head office. Caro should also be given to correct addressing. Last year no less than 1300 letters and book packets were wrongly directed by the senders to Wellington alone, inquiry proving them to be intended for other places.
