A NEW CHURCH.

(Per Press Association.) ,_v Auckland last night. ■f The solemn ceremony of consecrating the new stone Church of St. Matthew’s was carried out this morning by tbe Bishop of the Diocese (Dr Neligan), who wore a handsome cope. The big church, built to accommodate 1200, was packed to the doors, though no unseemly crowding was permitted. The ceremony , was most impressive, the Bishop preacbiDg an interest- j ing and powerful sermon. The singing was by the combined choirs of tho Anglican I ohurcbe<- in Auckland under tho baton of I Mr Pbilpott, Mr Arthur Towsey, of Wanganui, presiding at tho organ. The Church, which is a very handsome structure of Oamaru stone, cost £26,000 and is opened free of debt. '
