A man giving the name o £ 'Donald S. Galterton Has been . arrested for issuing valueless cheques. He pasaed.one on a storekeeper, obtaining .goods and money. He was attempting to issue a second for L 65, which, compassed his arrest. Oamaru, last night. Clark’s store at Maheno was totally destroyed by 6re. early yesterday. morniDg, together with thel.adjoining dwelling and furniture therein. The origin of the fire )is unknown. The insurance on the store wa3 L3OO, on the stock L 750, and on the furniture L 235, all in the .Phoenix.
