George WCCbf, a visitiog photographer, was drowned in u.*is Manowhare river this morning while bathing. v Auckland, last night.
John Rae, a jockey, when returning from the races at Hamilton on Saturday, crossing .between some horse-boxes on the train, fell between the carriages. His left foot was so badly crushed that it had to be amputated at the Hospital.
, • ' Hawora, last night. Mias J. Lloyd slipped on the ice near the top of Mount Egmont yesterday, and slid Dearly 10 chains at a terrible speed. The akin wa,s torn from portions of her arms, side and back. She had a miraculous escape from more serious injury. Wellington, last night. William Anderson, aged 64, shot him seif through tho templo this moruiug -at bis residence, Austin -street. Deceased was a married man in good circumstances. Nelson, last night. F. W. Fldworday, an old resident of tho district, a retired baiter, died suddenly at Stoke to-day while chopping wood in his own premises. Heart disease is supposed to be the y.aase. An iuquost will be held. Dunedin, last night. William Westcott, an old resident of Roxburgh, was killed on Saturday by a dray wheel passing over him. He slipped while putting on the brake going down hill.
John Henderson, aged 58, a C3rponter, who has been ia the employ of the Railway Department for sovon years, was killed in the goods yard to-day. He had been set to work to adjust and rebed the buffer stop. He guyed the post with ropes on tho one side, but not on the other. Evidently while coming out of the excavated hole the heavy post from some unexplained cause fell on him on tbe guyod side, pinning him to earth and killing him. He had been working alone. The body was found about noon, life being extinct.
