PROPOSED EXHIBITION.

(Par Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. On February 14, when the Premier was in Christchurch, the Mayor conferred with him concerning the forthcoming International Exhibition, especially in reference to statements in the Premier’s letter of December 19, declaring that the Go vernment were prepared to spend £20,000 oa the exhibition. This, the Mayor explained to the Premier, was interpreted to mean “ prepared to lose that sum on the project.” The Premier said this was a correct interpretation, and ho promised on bis return to Wellington that the whole matter would be submitted to the Cabinet. Nothing further has been heard of the matter, and accordingly on Saturday the Mayor telegraphed to Mr Seddon at Auckland, reminding him of his promise. The following reply was received : “We have not been able to deal definitely with tbo Exhibition matter, and are now awaiting information from outside the colony.” The Premier added that he hoped to be able to give full particulars within a fort night.
