Beports are to band that deatruotive bußh fires have occurred in the country north of the Mokau and Awakino rivers. A lot of damage was done to the properties of Messrs Matthews, T. Elliot, Bidell and Buokle.
The dry weather is affecting the milk supply all over Taranaki.
Hawera, last night. On Wednesday afternoon a bodroom at Mr Coleman’s boarding house was ent red and a cash-box broken open, the sum of £25 in cheques and cash being stolen. Other premises are reported to have been entered.
Wellington, last night. The Defence Department has decided there are to bo two oamps in the Wellington volunteer district Easter wook.ono for the Eaßt Coast and the other for the West Coast. Sites have not yet been selected. Arrangements are being made for a sham fight in each district. Auokland, last night. The police are advised that Walter Maxwell, formerly a partner in the Q.O.E. Stores, Cambridge, has been arrested at Brisbane, charged with being an absconding bankrupt.
