. Dunedin, yesterday. [ „ Baker lias selected Graham and Rennet to supply vacancies in the New Zealand team, caused through the inability t of Austin and Downes to play. The weather is fine, but dull. A good wioket has been prepared. Laver and McLeod are standing out of the Australian team. Noble won the toss and sent Otago in. Off the captain’s opening ball Austin, who is partnered by Siedeberg, scored three.

Owing to the inability of a number of Hawke’s Bay players to obtain leave at present it has been decided to postpone the visit of the representative team to Auckland (which was to have been made next week) until towards the end of the month and an endeavor will now be made to arrange the trip so as to leave Napier on March 2 lst, piay the Auckland match on the 23rd, 24th and 25ch March, and Poverty Bay on the 27th and 28th the team arriving home on the 30th.

The total was - „ 5 - Cotter took five wickets for 20 and , Noble five for 80. Duff and Trumper, the hrst Australian representatives, gave a rare exhibition of batting. Their strokes all round fcne wicket were crisp and clean I and they made the bowling look verv I simple. Towards the end of his innings Trumpet piayed somewhat reoklessly, and at 168 he was dismissed caught for 87 having had three or four lives. Duff did I i notsurvive him long, as at 169 he was bowled for 74. The pair had scored at the I } rate of two runs per minute. After this the cricket seemed tame.
