Mr Chamberlain defended the convention. He said the Opposition were only trying to make political capital out of a subject absolutely irrelevant to the fiscal controversy. The convention was really an obstacle to his giving moderate preference to stimulate the production of colonial sugar. He hoped this would be altered when the convention waß revised. The debate was adjourned. -
