FRASERTOWN NOTES.
.(From Our Own Correspondent.) Feb. 24. The dangerous crossing over the Mangaono creek on the road to Lake Waikoremoana is to be bridged at last. Mr D. McMillan, district road surveyor, proceeded by special coach to Waikaremoana on Sunday for the purpose of fixing a site for the bridge, as the work is to be taken in hand at once.
In the course of an interview with a representative of the Christchurch Press, Mr JB. W. Roper, a recent visitor to Lake Waikaremoana, said : “ Considering how much Waikaremoana, the celebrated Tuhoe land lake, has been brougt i info prominence lately it is somewhat singular that according to the visitors’ book at Lake House no tourist, neither from Australia nor the Old Country, has yet visited the Bpot.” Exactly 1 And why ? Simply because tourists from Australia and the Old Country who throng Rotorua cannot reach Waikaremoana, except by a roundabout and uncertain route, and until the road between Rotorua and Waikaremoana
is completed this condition of thiDgs is bound to prevail. Rotorua, the tourist oentre of the colony, must be tapped before Waikaremoana will ever become anything more than a mere local playground. Teams chosen from the Tekopu Rifle Club and Hurnmua Mounted Rifles held tbeir third contest for the silver ehallenge cup at the range here on Saturday. The result was a win for the Tekopa Rifle Club. Beckett, of this town. At a speoial meeting of the School Committee, held on Saturday evening, Mr C. E. Clifton was elected a member of the Committee.
