Ohristohurob, last night. r The Oanterbury-Australian match waa continued yesterday, the Australians’ innings dosing for 166. In their second ea3ay Canterbury ran up 176 for eight "V wickets. Bennott and Callaway both bowled splendidly for tbo homo team, and thoroughly deserved their success. They kept a splendid length, and sent down very few loose balls. Bennett was pnrv ticularly brilliant. The last two men of the Australian team were run out through very smart holding, and in this department the Canterbury team showed to CV groat advantage. Hill showed quite the best fkrm of the visitors, and ployed freely and confidently from the moment be went to the wickets. He looked like making a ■ good soore when the end oame. In their * second innings Canterbury made a start, the board showing 160 for four wio. kets. After Ridley’s departure, however . Barron, Ellis, and Bennett went in quick 7 succession without scoring, and 166* showed for eight wickets. Oilivier played the best innings of the day, showing good j defeosive orioket at a time when it was \ most needed. Lawrence and Ridley ably seconded his efforts. The Association matches were brought to a close on Saturday last when the oh ampion olub (Taruheru) wore defoatod y Gisborne (the runners-up) after an interesting game. The match was played at Taruheru on a splendid wicket. The outfield played very fast, and any ball that beat the fieldsmen travelled to the bound- * ary. Gisborne batted first and put up 125. Torkihgton was the most successful bowler, and bowled splendidly throughout. The wiokot was 100 fast for Charles, who was given too much to do. Sedon might have X been put on with advantage to his side. O’Dea and O’Connor, who have not

playod since Christmas, greatly strengthened Gisborne.
