The Auckland Band Contest Committee makes about £SOO out of the ooptest. The profits will be divided amongst the Auckland bands, who each guaranteed £IOO towards expenses. Mr Wardoll, S.M., granted an application from Hawke, olerk to the Auckland Deeds Office, to proceed against James Began, proprietor of the weekly newspaper Saturday Night, upon a charge of criminal libel. The alleged libel was based on comment upon the notion of Hawke in claiming damages from the Tramway Company for injuries alloged to have been caused by the collision of the electric tram-car and a road roller.
