At the Police Court yesterday a fine of £l, costs 2s, was imposed on Charleß Simpson, who was charged with having travelled on the Union Steam Ship Company’s a.s. Mokoia on the 21st and 22nd inst. • between Auckland and Gisborne without having paid his fare, £l, and with the intention of not doing so. The accused pleaded guilty, but no excuse for the offence was tendered. The alternative is i four days’ hard labor. An order was made for payment of £l, the amount of the steamer fare, within seven days, in default four days’ further imprisonment.
