CHRISTCHURCH NEWS.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The Dairy Conference, whioh was held yesterday, was largely attended. The grading of butter under the supervision of the Government expert was a most interesting function. The export butter from most of the factories scored from 92 to 95 points. Two factories scored 93. V, one 94, one 94i, one 95, two jußt scraped into the first grado, and two wore placed in tho second grace. There was no cheese offered for grading, so this part.of the proceedings was dispensed with. The 22nd annual conference of the New Zealand Congregational Union opened here yesterday. Resolutions were passed recording the loss the denomination had sustained through the deaths of the Rev. Miller (Napier) and J. W. Jago (Dunedin). In tho evening a public meeting was held, and an address was given by tho chairman, Mr Moadoweroft, of Wellington. Mr G. Folds, M.H.R., stated that the sum of £ISOO was in hand for the Pastors’ Provident Fund, but £BOOO was necessary before ministers could take advantage of it. The annual meeting of the Congregational Union was resumed tbia morning. ■The sitting was devoted to a conference on bow to awaken a living faith in the eburohee, the subject being introduced by Rev. E. Taylor, and fully disoussed. The Revs. Dewsbury, Tait, and Martin waited on the Union os a deputation from the Ministers' Association, nnd extended greetings to the Union. The Rev. W. A. Javans and the chairman of the Union reoiprooatod tho greeting. A private cable from England announces the Budden death of Captain F. Addington, C. 8., formerly commander of H. Phoebe on tho Australian squadron.
