Ac Opotiki on Wednesday the Motu elevrn scored another decisive victory on Che cricket reserve, when they defeated n comhined Whakatano team by 111 runs. E. Doroeonrt made double figures in each innings, 34 and 33 respectively, while his brother and W. Reed (Capt.) also scored well for Motu.

A number of settlerswere also present as OpotiKi during; carnival week, and speak highly of the hospitality extended to thorn by the Opotiki people. At the annual dinner of the A. and P. Association a number of Motu settlers were present, The toast of “ Our Visitors,” was proposed by Mr E. Chapman, who said it was a great pleasure to see Motu and Gisborne bo well represented. When the new road was made via Otora the distance between Motu and Opotiki would bo “shortened by nearly half way, and this was a road that would be of mutual benefit to both districts and Poverty Bay, Mr P. Wright, who replied on behalf of the Motu visitors, mentioned how thoroughly every man from their district had enjoyed the outing and expressed the hope that some of the Opotiki people would also. visit them. The speaker said he was very proud of berng a Motu resident and of speaking on behalf of the settlers in that district on the present occasion.

The Engineer’s report and estimate re the deviation on the Motu-Karaka road has been received by Mr E. B. Thomson. Chairman of the Motu branch of the Farmers’ Union.
