At the Supreme Court to day Henry Augustus Bamford, soiioiior, of Dannevirke, was suspended from practice until the sitting of the Appeal Court for failing to opply tho money of his clients for specific purposes. Three prisoners wero dealt with as follows : Walter Haslor, indecent assault, 12 months ; Edgar Moody, criminal assault, two years ; Charles Newton and Frank Voss, burglary, six years each ; Annie Cantelin, theft, 12 months’ probation and to pay £5 costs. Wellington, last night. At tho annual meeting of the KolburneKnrori Tramway Company, tho report Bbowed receipts for the year to bavo been £IOOO, an increase over those of 1903. A dividend of 5 per cent on preference shores was passed. The business of the Empire hotel has been floated into a company, with a capital of £40,000
The Young Now Zealanders’ Land Association, in order to promote settlement of young colonists on tho land of their country, has requested their president and secretary, Mr W. Gibson, to address a public mooting during the winter in the ohief agricultural districts of the colony in order to found branches of the. Association.

The motion for a now trial in the oase of Seddon v. Taylor oame before Judge Denniston in Chambers this morning. Mr Stringer, for plaintiff, intimated that tho case had been settled. The Judgo replied that both parties to the ease might febe congratulated upon that fact.
Cable advioe has been received here that F. A. Hilgendorf, M.A., B.Sc, biologist to Lincoln Agricultural College, will be recommended to the Senate of the New Zealand University for tho Doctor of Soienoe degree.
Greymouth, laßt night,
The body of a man who for a fortnight past has been at Greymouth under the name of Charles Gordon, was found in a mud hole this morning. Deceased’s coat found on the bank. In his clothing Was found a latter that indicated he was in business in Palmerston North under the name of Gheirles Revans. Enquiries are now being made. The case is supposed to be one of suicide.

Tho Railwoy League has been advised by tho Minister for Railways that he regrets ho is unable to grant through railway tickets for passengers to and from the east and west coasts. It was desired that travellers should receive the benefit of the concession in fares over long distances, which is interrupted by the break for the coaching stage, necessitating fresh tickets for each railway section traversed,
Dunedin, last night. The Rechabite Conference adjourned till February, 1907, at New Plymouth, after electing the following officers:— Past District Chief Ruler, Bro. J. Whittaker, New Plymouth; District Chief Ruler, Bro. Sherwood, Dunedin ; District Deputy Ruler, Bro. Caldor, Nelson; District Secretary, Bro. the Hon, T. H. Fraser, Wellington; District Treaßuser, Bro. T. W. Leslie, .Wellington ; District Superintendent of Juvenile Branches, Bro. T. Fathers, Nelson ; District Auditor, Bro. J. W. Hall, Wellington. At the Police Court Charles Heatley was sentenced to odo month’s imprisonment without the option of a floe for using obscene language, and an additional month for s powardlj assault gn a woman.
