Continued on Pago 4. POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB. SUMMER MEETING. ,The Poverty Bay Turf Club commenced their Bummoi meeting at the Makaraka racecourse yesterday. The weather, which looked anything but pleasant in the morning, olearod towards noon, and the races were got through without rain. Tho attendance was largo and speculation brisk, tho club putting up a record in regard to the totalisator returns, the sum handled amounting to £6021, which will mean over £IO,OOO for the meeting. The secretary, Mr Maude, had everything in order, and the gathering provod a moßt enjoyable one. Captain Tucker officiated as judge, Mr W. O. Skeet os totalisator clerk, and Mr G. R. Wyllie as clerk of the scales, and all gave the utmost satisfaction. Mr H. Piper was very successful in regard to the manner m which he got his fields away, whilst Mr A. Pritchard made a most efficient clerk of the course. An excellent lunoheon was provided by Mr J. Craig, who spared no pains to promote the comfort of visitors. An Italian string band rendered a number of selections during the afternoon, and added greatly to the enjoyment of the gathering.
