Another bumper and enthusiastic boose greeted the above company Jaafc night, * when Sydney Grundy’s “My Wife’s Mother” was and proved to be*one ~*i" of the most laughable and farcical corns- 4 dies yet produced in Gisborne. The plol it from stare to finish abounds in most ludicrous yet possible complications, and/ho rdialogue fs crisp, yet decidedly clever. Miss i Maud Williamson surprised and delighted i the audience with her representation of Mrs Gellibrand, tho austoro mother inlaw. ,4 Miss Williamson's danoo in the second act % fairly brought tho house down, and .®er clever acting in this roie proves this lady i to bo equally as gifted in comedy as in drama. Mr Alfred Woods was .likewise t'most excellent in tho part of Arthur I ttummiDgtop, and easily supplied tSh i necessary humour this character de- \ manded. Miss Alice Holroyd gave a » graceful and ploasing impersonation’! of 1 Mrs Hummingtop.” Miss May Cul]<4’s $ Bose Columbia ” was excellent, andjrSv- I most vivacious and dashing portrayal -was ' i given by this young lady. Miss M. Mastors made bd excellent •< Baisy Maitland.’ and helped in no small way towards ■ the success of tho evening, whilst “ Bsr- * bara " was capably interpreted by Mils ' Carl Boyle. Mr J. A. Lambert was in good form, and essayed the role of “ Balph Omerod ”in a highly artistic manner, dis- ’. playing ample ability as a comedian. Mr B. Lavieri was perfect as tho headed "Josh Gellibrand,” and throughout tho comedy acted tho dude with much # ability. The comedy goes with an excellent swing, and thore was not one” da?
