POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB
SUMMER MEETING. NOTES AND ANTICIPATIONS.
(Bv “Eakly Bird.”) Tho Summer Meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club will commence at Makaraka
to-day, and there is every prospeot of a record meeting, both from the point of view of attendance and speculation. The fields are large, and there should be some excellent racing. Excellent arrangements have neon made by the club’s secretary, Mr E, L. Maude for the conduct of the meeting, N. Trains'wili leave town at 9 a.m., 12 ;noon, and 1.10 p.m. Tfae following are the acceptances;—
Weller Handicap, of SO eovs, 1 mile. Faro ... 10 3 Waimata ... 8 5 Tonderghie... 912 Brnisor ... 8 4 Sarakoff ... 9 6 Morelia ... 8 0 Haukeria 9 2. Hiawatha ... 8 0 Qailtod "8 . 7 <
In allotting Faro 10.3 Mi: Chadwick has dealt leniently -with the son of Monaco, j£and, allowing for a little improvement over Park running, ha should about get home. Owing to the death of Mr Gy. J 3. G. Biohardson, Tonderghie will,, not start, all the deceased gentleman’s hordes having i been scratched for the meeting. Sarakoff ran two good mile races at the Park, but there are many who question the accuracy of the times recorded, and it remains to be seen whether the Saracen mare will rapoat the performance to-day. Haukeria with 9.2 must be given a chance, as also must Morehu, who has winning form at Wairoa to recommend him. My fancy is

Hakaria has a fairly good weight to carry bat he won so easily at the Park that he mast be well ap to-day. Morpeth has been severely treated by the handicapper, and has got far more than his deserts in being allotted 11.4. He should, nevarfchlgas, run well- Inspan has a very bandy impost, but the VaDguard gelding ran disappointingly at the Park, and he may not be equal to the opposition that ha has to faos to day. I will venture the following—

In anch a larga field and .so rnany untried candidates, it is difficult to get an idea o£ what is worth following. Local Option, Sarilla and Sarakoff are well treated, as also are Hey wood and Te Rahni, both the latter Being whispered about as having excellent phanoss. Meripere and Baltic each won a race at Wairoa, and as the former will have the services of jyoung Ras, she should give; a good account of herself. Hiawatha and Melton Hall are the best outsiders. The numbers may go up as follows :
