(Per Press 'Association.) Auckland last night. Considerable interest was taken in the election of membore for the Auckland Harbor Board yesterday. The result is that the new members are in favor of the proposed schemo of works as arranged by the Board’s engineer. Napier, last night. In the Supreme Court Edgar Moody was found guilty of criminal assault at Dannevirke, and remanded for sentence. Obituary : G. E. G. Richardson, tho well-known settler and owner of racehorses, Wellington, last night. It hat been definitely decided that Mr James MoKerrow, ex Surveyor-General, will bo Chairman of thß Band Tenure Commission, vice Mr W- S. Reid, resigned. The case against David Barry, charged with violent assault on Mathews, shipmaster on the s.s, Mararoa, was adjourned till Monday. Malhews is progressing satisfactorily, but is unable to leave tho hospilal for a few days. Bail was allowed. Nelson, last night. The Harbor Board elections for the city resulted in Messrs O. W. Hanby (old member), A. H. Bisley and A. H. Hounsoli being returned out of five candidates. For Richmond Mr Goo. Talbot was returned unopposed. The Wairnea County returns are not yet available. Christchurch, last night.
In the Supreme Court Herbert Joseph O’Brion, for forging and uttering, was sentenced to 12 months' probation and payment of £SO oostß. Timaru, last night. At a mooting of the South Canterbury Board of Education to-day a resolution wos unanimously passed protesting against the action of tho Department in limiting the spending powers of Boards and forcing the latter into an attitude of mendicancy in some cases, and in others allowing a miserable concession of 7 per cent. Remonstrance was also offered againßt tho Department regarding Boards with distrust, aod having their proper functions withdrawn. It was agreed to forward a copy of this resolution to tho Department, together with a protest passed by the Southland Board.
Hokitika, last night. Mr George Perry has b3en elected chairman of the Harbor Board. The delegates attending the temperance convention went North last evening, after spending a very pleasant time in the district. They speak highly of the lake goenery and holiday resorts.
