BAND CONTEST
(Per Presa Association.) Auckland, yesterday. ■ ’ The North Island Band Contest commenced this morning in His Majesty’s Theatre. It is the most important con. tost yet hold in the colony, 13 bands competing. The contest for the championship - is expeoted to be very keen. The baritone B flat, maximum 120 points: A. Martin, Waoganui Garrison, j 112, Ist; P. Dixon, Wellington Garrist^n, 108, 2nd ; H. Penn, Waihi Federal, 102, 3rd ; R. Little, Kaikorai, 100, 4tb.' The contest, is . recognised by bandsmen generally as the \ greatest test held in the colony for years, " as threo bands that have generally won contests (amongstjthem Wellington, Wangahui and Kaikorai) are on this occasion ! competing, and meeting each otbor for i&a first time. The judge is Mr W. S. King of Christchurch. In all there aro eleven it’ll bunds competing, and from five others f soloists and quartettes parties are entered ; for .‘he various events, making a total of 1 16 bands represented.
