ADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— Having been again nominated to represent you on the Gisborne Harbor Board, I shall, if returned, work for the best intero. t of the town and district generally. Your interests are identical with my own, and in this lays my best assurance to promote the welfare and progress of the town and efficiency of the Board’s onorous duties to the bestiiof my ability. A personal solicitation of your vote and interest is repugnant to my ideas ot electioneering, and in this respeot. as far as I am conoomed, you will be left free, and properly so. My attitude in all matters for the benefit and progress of the district is too well known to need any further mention from me. Confidently abiding the result of your verdict on the 13th, Yours faithfully, J. WH INRAY.
HARBOR BOARD. ELECTION.. TO THE COUNTY ELECTORS. TT ABIES AND GENTLEMEN,;-' JLI Holding that the forthcoming Election should be fought out on a direct issue, I consented to bping nominated as a Candidate for a seat on the Board. I publicly; opposed the present scheme at its inception : If elected I will endeavor, to stop the present work and the extravagant expenditure —it cannot and never will afford settlers relief from the present oppressive taxation. A proper and efficient sand-pump .would keep the channel open for navigation for the elass of vessels that now; enteE it any, of much greatertonnage will never use it. Our resources should he conserved for the purpose of constructing a harbor capable of berthing ocean-go-Jng steamers. The district’s ability, to, fdo such a wiork is governed by, the volume and value of its exports, and the cost of conveying them to the steamer’s hold. For the future welfare of the district I deem it to be my duty, .to be outspoken. If you apurove of the present scheme, do not vote for me ; hut if, on the contrary, you disapprove of it, show it by placing me at the head of the poll.—l am, yours faithfully, A.
