FLAXBOURNE ESTATE.
AN OWNER'S PATRIOTISM,
(Per Press ‘Association.) Blenheim, last night.
Evidence was given in the Flaxbourne case to-day by Sir Geh. Geo. Clifford, principal owner of the estate, who showed that the best offer of the Government was £2 10s an acre, or £140,800 cash. This was made in. 1902. and declined. If the Minister had met him in a reasonable way he would have sacrificed much rather than stand as it were in litigation against the country in which he was born, and towards which be had patriotic feelings. Horace Baker, land agent, Napier, gave evidence that he valued the estate at £258,070, or £6 6s 3d per acre. Aitcr Towdrol), dairy farmer at Waimate Plain, produced a sample of Flaxbourne milk, which ho showed had given a better test of butter fat than the average obtained in his district. )
