Messrs Hatrick and Co.’s now steamers having arrived, the WaDganui river service, which connects with the new overland route from Auckland to. Wellington via the Central railway and the Wanganu river, has been ■ increased to tri-weekly. . Dunedin, last night. At the annual meeting of the Westport Coal Company this afternoon, the Chair, man* after referring to the .balance-sheet, said that the profit this year was not so great as last, owing to the decreased output. This decrease was due to several causes. In the first part of the year-the Company was unable to supply the demand, work in one section of the mine having to bo stopped owing to a slip in the roof. When that difficulty was overcome and the Company was able to increase its output trade fell off, partly owing to the railways being supplied from the State inino and partly to the competition from Newcastle and looal mines. The Millerton manager reported having tapped a seam bf new good, hard coal, wbioh will open out a large area hitherto untouched. Wellington, last night.
