COMMERCIAL.

MATAWHERO SALES. Messrs Common, 3helton and Od, and Dalgety and. Co. held their neual fortnightly sale of sheep and cattle at Matawhero at 10.30 a.m. yesterday. The sale was held a day earlier than usual on account of the races. In tho absence of Mr Wachsmann, Mr J. B. Kells officiated for both firms. There was a good attendance of buyers and competition was spirited for store ewo3 and lambs, of which there was a record entry. A line of 2139 store ewes brought 14s. Sheep : About 5000 were yarded, the quotations being as follows :—lO2 small, lambs 6s 7d, 63 Bmali lambs 7s 6d, 70 lambs 7s 9d, 25 lambs of mixed sizes 8a 6d, 350 lambs 9s 6d, 176 lambs (good line) 11s, cull ewes 7s Bel, 120, 114 and 99 ewes in poor condition 7s 6d, 7s 7d and 8s 6d, 28 and 75 ewes 9s and 9s lOd, 618 ewes (medium stores) 11s, 452 ewes lls, 36 twotooth Shropshire owes lls lOd, 56 fat ewes 13s 6d, 2139 owes (stores) 14s, 25 two-tooth wethers (poor lot) 8s 6d, 44 wethers 14s, 65 fat and forward wethers 14s 103, 332 two- and four-tooth wethers in forward condition 15s 6d, 5 four-tooth Lincoln rams 3 guineas. Cattle : About 90 wero yarded, of in-

ferior quality. The demand was very slack. Steers sold at from £3 to £3 IQs, cows £3 Bs.

Monckton; 3 at L 3 2s 6d, H. Morioe ; 2 at L 3 7s 6d, G. Scott; and 2 at L 3 7s 6d, Scott and Telford. 22 2 tooth Bomney rams 3i guineas, J. Pattison ; 118 ewes 16s, Joblin : 260 2 tooth ewes 13s 6d, B. C. Craig ( 17 Lincoln rams {ss, E. Cameron. There was a small yarding of cattle and a very poor demand. Beef cows brought to L 5 7s 6d, aud bullocks to L 5 10s. Pigs—Tamworth weaners brought 5s 6d, small pigs 8s 6d. ■ Horses—Eew in number yarded. A draught mare was sold to Mr Straohan for LIS, and a 3 year old filly by Delphin to Mr 0. J. Parker for Ll2 10a.
