MUCH DAMAGE DONE’,

All woodwork belonging to jetty, beacons, eta, were eutofiy demolished, but the jetty itself, m u J of iron ' framed no injury. Much damage was dono on shore Th© Government House garden waa com _ pletely rumad, and some injury was done to the house itself. The ground was covered with eocoanuts and leaves, which were stripped off the trees. The effect on the copra crop will be disastrous, as moat of tho young nuts remaiumg on the trees aro injured by salt water and will drop off. The bananas near the coast hne are completely destroyed. The
well-known schooner Ysabel,Captain Ross wa3 on the eoast at the time,and sustained the mil rorce of tho gale. Grave fears were entertained for her safety owing to/ the ternffo sea.
