COMMERCIAL.
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The third wool sales opened this morning. One firm catalogued 940 bales, of which only 81 were passed. The result is considered very satisfactory, considering* the decided decline in the market since last sale. For pieces and bellies excellent rates were realised. The average drop in crossbred wools was from to fd. Halfbreds were much on a par with last sale. The demand for merinos was, if anything, better than at last sales. Average prices dropped to £d.* Top prices were : 10Jd for crossbreds, for halfbreds, lOd for merinos, though no choice lines were offered in the latter class.
The wool sale offerings comprised 6430 bales, or slightly below the corresponding sales of last year. There was a good attendance of buyers, and bidding was animated for doe wools, such as super halfbred and morino, which realised the same ratos as last sale od January 13th. The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cable from their London house :—“ Since the close of last sales faulty merino is lower by £d per lb. As compared with the closing rates of last sales, coarse crossbred and medium greasy crossbred are about 10 per cent lower, but the market is steady at this decline. Average current London valuo of under-noted descriptions of New Zealand greasy wool : Merino, good 13£d, medium lljd, inferior 9£d; crossbred, hne 13d, medium lid, coarse 40’s lOld, 36’s lOd.”
