A Blue Book of the Thibetan expedition ff* discloses that Mr Brodrick considered Colonel- Yonnghnsband exceeded, bis discretionary powers in accepting the Thibetans’ proposals to pay seventy-five , million rupees in seventy five annual ' instalments, Britain holding the Chumbi Valley as securiety, also in securing the right of the British commercial agent to occasionally proceed to Lhassa. Despite Lord Ampthill’a remonstrance, ■*" Mr Broderick insisted on modifying these remitting a portion of the a3 an act of grace., _ Lord Lansdowne informed Russia that w «o long as no other Power interfered in Thibet Great Britain would not annex it, establish a protectorate, nor control the internal administration.
