To date 108,640 bales have been offered and 101,459 sold. The sales included Tautan and Motuotaria clips llgd, Otago Is Ogd, Poakawa Is Id, Manuka Is lOgd. (Per Press Association.)' Wellington, last night. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable- _ gram from the Agent-General, dated London, 28th: — ” The mutton market is weak, with poor demand. At the same time there is a. soarcity of prime quality mutton. River „ Plate mutton is in heavy supply, and is being strongly pushed for sale. The average pries to-day for Canterbury mutton, light weight, is 4gd, heavy weight 4Jd. The average price for Dunedin, Southland and Wellington Meat Company’s brands is 4-£d, and for other brands of North Is-,j» land mutton 4d. River Plate mutton is quoted at 3£d, Australian Sjjcl. “ The lamb market is quiet, with small demand. Australian lamb is in large supply, and its sale is being pushed. average price for Australian lamb to-day’-is from 4£d qo s}d, new season’s New Zealand lamb OJd, but the quotations may be considered normal.
“ The beef market iB quiet and the stock on band heavy. The average prioa to-day for hindquarters New Zealand beef is forequarters 2Jd. “ The butter market is very firm, and all butter is in good demand. The average price for choicest New Zealand butter"* to-day is 102 s per cwt, Danish 108 s. “ The oheese market - is steady, with moderate demand. The average price today for finest New Zealand cheese is Coa ; x _- per cwt.
“ Hemp is unchanged since cabling you! last week.
“ At the wool sales prices were irregular,' and the market rather unsettled. The'j-jt*. enrront Bradford quotation for tops are;£-' i 36’s, low crossbreds, Is 3£d; 40’s, low crossbreds, Is 4d ; 44’s, medium crossbreds, 50’s, halfbrods, Is 6jd ; 56‘s, quarterbreds. Is SJd ; and 6Q’s, merinos, 2s OJd. Business is dull.” TIM ABC WOOL SALES. ‘(Per Press Association.) Timaru, last night.- - The third wool'sale is proceeding this evening from 8 o’clock. Four thousand bales were catalogued. It will be late ■ before it is finished, but early catalogues - seem to show that bids for fine half bredh are a halfpenny and coarse wools as much as a penny lower compared with last sales-
