Timaru, last night. The Harbour Board report that nearly all material loaf by the storms from the eastern mole staging has been recovered. Blame is cast upon turpentine gum piles as too brittle, and ironbark is to be preferred in future. Turpentine was recommended as the best for resisting tereao. The resident engineer recommended procuring a bucket dredge to deepen the whole harbour. Mr J. P. Maxwell, consulting engineer, advises that this is not necessary fnfhe meantime, and that the matter be held over pending completion of the new mole and its effects ascertained.
