Afc a meeting of atrooturs of the Union Steamship Company to-day, Captain HuiJ was given an opportunity of peiaenally erp.uiuiug the circumstances which lod to Sue stranding 01 tuo VVainui on the Tower Kooks, bet-vccu Stephen and Durviile Isiauas, on the night of the 15th ins!. The directors considered that Captain Hull was to blame in running his vessel at full speed when ho had not been able to land after leaving Terawhiti, but depended entirely upon an estimate of his position, wifch tho result that he was three miles out of bis reckoning when the steamer struck. Under the circumstances, therefore, the directors decided that Captain Hull could not bo reinstated iu command; In view, nowover, of the past services and good l record they gave him an opportunity of , remaining in the company’s service in the position of chief officer. Captain Hull 3 kowevor, to resign, and has now r iexfi the company’s service.
