(Per Press Association.^ Wellington, last night. Reports received by tho Agricultural Department show that the Government stud horses and cattle have boon in good demand thia season. For shorthorn stock the demand is greater than could be supplied, both in the North and South Islands Reports concerning fruit state that the season has not been on average ono, owing to the stormy weather experienced early in the season effecting the crops along tho East Coast of the North Island. In the South Island the crops did better. The Cricket Association have decided to play oleven men against tho Australians. r Tho Wellington branch of the New Zealand Societies’ Association carried a resolution protesting against tho dastardly treatment of Russian socialists and the egg-laving competition now being promoted by tho Marlborough Poultry Breeders* Associatiou is to be carried out under the supervision of the poultry branch of the Department of Agriculture. Colonel Colling has received intimation from the Government that it is intended to send a team to compete at Bisley this year to defend the Kolapore Cup. The team is to be chosen immediately after the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association, which opens at Trentham on March 2. At the Caledonian Company s can works, Kaiwarra, this morning a large shea containing material of various kinds was destroyed by fire. The mam buildings were threatened, but escaped. Ibe damage is estimated at £4OO. The London, Liverpool and Globo and Guardian offices hold risks.
